This is the month of love. Stores are flooded with an array of items to show our undeniable devotion for those we care about. With so much focus on loving others this month, which we fully support, we want to draw attention to the one person you might be forgetting – you.

Giving yourself a dose of self love is incredibly important. What does self love look like? It is as simple and as complicated as making yourself a priority. By doing this, you will in turn become a better mother, wife, friend, and daughter.  You See, it all ties together.  Sometimes, you have to be your own Valentine in order to love those around you to your full potential!

For some of us, the idea of self love and care can feel awkward and uncomfortable.  We want to help! We have put together a 3 step list on how to be a good selfish:

  1. Become a morning person.

Did you know that morning people have been scientifically proven to be happier?  Studies suggest that they are more satisfied with life overall. While energy levels and work conditions are unique to every individual, early mornings seem to be popular because they enable you to get a head start on the day before distractions and obligations arise.  Our advice – attack the day on your own terms. Kid lunches, school drop-offs, critical work emails – those can all come second. Try getting a workout in at Vie Athletics and grab a cup of Joe.  Give yourself time back by setting the alarm an hour earlier than normal.  You won’t regret it!

  1. Exercise

Productivity feels amazing! Don’t get us wrong, who doesn’t love a good Netflix binge? But after about 5 whole hours, you start to rethink your entire existence. We want to challenge you, Vie Girls, to get active at least 3 times a week. By doing this, you will be happier!  High-intensity exercise releases your bodies feel-good chemicals, called endorphins. This kind of activity spurs the release of special proteins, which cause nerve cells to grow and make new connections. This improvement in brain function makes you feel better! In fact, exercise has been shown to reduce depression and overall stress by a whopping 50%-70%.  It is nature’s most accessible form of medicine! You do not have to be an Olympic athlete to get in the gym. Find your Vie location, throw your hair in a pony, lace up, show up, and let’s do this. Together.

  1.  Be gentle to yourself!

We believe that it is important to set goals. In fact, we asked you all to make a promise to yourselves coming into the new year! These promises were unique and individual to each of you. Maybe you want to be able to do an unassisted pull-up, lose 10 pounds, or master self confidence. Whatever your goal is, be kind and gentle to yourself on the journey to reaching it. Growth takes time. Only speak with positivity to yourself. It is so easy to fill our minds with doubt. Instead of saying “I am so weak” or “I look gross” remind yourself that you are stronger than you were yesterday, and you are beautiful because you are you. Remember that giving up on yourself will not bring you to your goals any faster. I have shocking news for you…If you have a pizza night with your family or miss a day at the gym, it is OKAY.  It’s actually more than okay. Life is about balance. Pick yourself back up tomorrow and remember who you are and what you want.

So, if you are looking for permission to be a little “good selfish” – here it is. You owe yourself the love you so freely give others. You are important. You are beautiful. You are enough. We know it, and it’s about time you did too

XOXO,
